How my feet were placed on this path
When I was twenty-three years old, two months after the birth of my son, I came down with scarlet fever. I was in the hospital ten days before they finally figured out what it was. On the edges of death, I saw a spiraling disc of fire energy in the corner of the room. It started slowly at first, then with great momentum spinning toward me in a counterclockwise direction, hitting me in the chest and exploding. At that moment, my fever broke and I started to recover.
In 1987, my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. As I was sitting across the bed from her, I laid my hands on her abdomen in a Reiki hand position, (although at the time I did not know it). I felt an energy jump out of my fingers, actually it leaped out of my fingers into her belly. She lived another 15 years. The year of her passing, I had gone to a massage therapist and she told me she was holding a Reiki class and thought I should come. She was right. I was initiated into Reiki I and II and started to practice on my mother. It was during a session that I saw the Reiki power symbol come out of my hands as a spiraling energy, similar to the one that hit me in the chest.
I was with my mother when she changed worlds and used Reiki the last moments of her life here to help her ease out of her body. A few years later, I received Reiki level III.
I did sessions for my friends with them urging me to open a practice. But the pressures of paying bills and working in 9-5 jobs took the forefront. There were many times when I wanted to step out there on that invisible limb, but just would not do it. It wasn’t until I lost two jobs in two days (three jobs total in one year) that put my feet on this path. I took the last money I had, bought a Reiki table, and here I am.
