We are what we
think
You can render to God and humanity
no greater service than to
make the most of yourself.

This is a question most healers struggle with at some point in time. Things to consider:
A. For many of the healing traditions, it is felt that "there must be an exchange of energy in order to keep the harmony of the universe". We must receive in order to be able to give. If the river does not "receive" it runs dry. Our car's batteries are connected to an "alternator"... the battery is being charged while it is also being discharged. Without that alternator, the battery will quickly run out of power.
B. For most humans, unless the mind puts value on something, it isn't perceived as valuable. Most people, even if they want bargain-basement prices, do NOT want bargain-basement quality in their health care. Would you? And, to many people, charging a minimal price is EQUAL in their minds, to low quality products or services. NOTE: This is not true, for the most part, with the truly poor, or the truly in need. But it is true for a majority of the middle class in the U.S.
C. In Reiki, as in other energy work, INTENTION is everything. It seems to be human nature to feel as if we have "earned it" if we pay for it. I have found that people who "get the work for free" often feel indebted, often feel unworthy, and often end up resenting the free gift, therefore not allowing the healing energy to flow within them. This is most times completely unconscious. Many of the old traditions believe that there must be an exchange for both parties to feel whole and complete, and for the healing to be its most beneficial.
Paying for health care tells our unconscious minds that we can allow the healing to work.
